Darren Bui, Solutions Architect

With 13 years in the industry, Darren’s start was unique in that it started with law school, learning the ins and outs of the litigation process. From there, he decided to move into the technological side of things by joining an eDiscovery vendor in 2009. Darren’s wealth of knowledge can be attributed to his diverse professional background, holding many different positions within the eDiscovery space. From tech to law school, vendors to large law firms dealing with high stakes litigation, Darren’s hunger for knowledge and years of experience helps provide PLUS’ clients the guidance they need during the discovery project.

What led you to PLUSnxt?

My time spent at big firms taught me a lot, but there were restrictions on what I could do to make a true difference there. With PLUS, we are empowered to do our job and given the opportunity to implement change and growth. This is what drew me to PLUS; the creativity we’ve been encouraged to employ in order to find solutions.

What is your role within PLUSnxt?

My role is to identify and manage the technology and workflows that allows PLUS to grow and thrive within the eDiscovery space. However, day to day, I manage clients’ projects with my fellow project managers. We empower our team by providing the right tools, technology, and space to succeed. That is what’s great about PLUS, our team is comprised of knowledgeable people that know how to get the job done. It’s a team environment, internally and externally. Collectively, we have taken the time to become experts in our fields; with all our project managers coming from big law, we know how to handle the big cases when they come our way.

Where do you see PLUSnxt going?

I see us becoming a leader within this industry. We have grown exponentially over the past few years and our team is growing in number and talent. RelativityOne is a great platform to work in but what is exciting is that our team at PLUS has taken the platform one step further by continuing to implement new apps to assist our clients. We continue to stay focused on adopting new workflows and new technology to remain efficient and relevant.

What is your ideal relationship with clients?

The relationships I find the most successful are the ones where we all understand our roles and duties. I want our clients to focus on their job as lawyers while we tackle the technology aspect. We both understand our roles of course, but my main focus is on helping the clients utilize the correct technology so that they can focus on lawyering, and that stems from trust. Without trust between us, it can become difficult to be successful. I see it as having a divide and conquer mentality.

What do you do for fun? What is something people couldn’t learn about you from your LinkedIn profile?

I spend majority of my time with family. We try to keep it fun by having picnics and getting the kids outdoors with weekend excursions. Overall, I’m an outdoor enthusiast.  Keeping a balance between my time spent with technology and my time spent outdoors is very important to me.

Stay tuned as we introduce the entire PLUSnxt Team and highlight their experience and expertise.
